Privacy Policy

This policy covers all the information you share with us, whether it’s through our website, our apps on iOS and Mac, or any other devices and platforms you use to access Gibberish.

What Information We Gather

When you set up a new Gibberish account, we ask for your email address and a password. We use your email for login purposes, resetting your password, replying to your emails, and sending you any notifications you’ve asked for. We don’t send promotional emails.

We also keep track of your posts and drafts. This includes details about when you create, edit, and publish them. This information can be synced across the website and all your devices.

The Nitty-Gritty Details

When you upload files to Gibberish, we store them until you decide to remove them.

If you opt for automatic cross-posting to your Mastodon account, we’ll need to keep a token to make this happen.

To keep you logged in, we use cookies on our website and similar tokens in our app.

Our server software might also temporarily store basic technical details like your IP address.

Gibberish uses a few hosting and service providers. They might also have access to basic technical information that passes through their services and the data stored using their resources:

- Apple (Privacy policy)
- Linode (Privacy policy)
- Stripe (Privacy policy)

How We Use Your Information

We collect information to make Gibberish work better. This includes improving our website, apps, and customer support.

We don’t share your personal information with anyone, unless it’s necessary for Gibberish to function properly. Sometimes, we might share anonymous statistics, like how many posts have been made on Gibberish, with others.

If we’re required by law, or to protect our rights and property, we might need to disclose your information. This could be in response to legal processes, or to investigate potential violations of our policies or suspected fraud.

If Gibberish is involved in a business transaction in the future, like a merger or acquisition, user information might be transferred as part of that deal.

Keeping Your Information Safe

We use a range of measures to protect your information. For example, all interactions with the app and website are done through HTTPS. Plus, we don’t store your passwords. Instead, we hash them using industry-standard methods, like bcrypt.

Managing Your Information

You can access, modify, or delete your account directly from the Gibberish website.

If you delete your account, your information might still be in our backups for up to 90 days. These backups are encrypted and only used if we need to recover data.

Gibberish reserves the right to remove your information at any time. This could be due to technical requirements, legal issues, preventing misuse, removing inactive accounts, recovering from data loss, or other reasons.

Complying with the California Online Privacy Protection Act

We comply with the California Online Privacy Protection Act. This means we won’t share your personal information with others unless we have your permission.

Complying with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act

We don’t gather or keep any information from users we know are under 13. Plus, our website isn’t designed to attract anyone under this age.

A Note for Our European Union Customers

If you use Gibberish and give us your information, you’re giving us permission to collect, use, and store your information outside of the European Union.

Handling Information Internationally

Your information might be processed, stored, or used in a country different from where you’re located. Data privacy laws aren’t the same everywhere, and the laws that apply to your data can change based on where it’s being processed, stored, or used.

Giving Your Consent

By choosing to use our site or apps, you’re agreeing to our privacy policy.
